I was just watching Schindler’s List, 071618 1700hrs and thinking, ” how can we be a positive change, when we can’t or won’t be a change within ourselves?”
In doing my bible lesson this past week “Soul Rest: 7 Days of Renewal ” I read this.
FOCUS ON THE SOURCE
When we take the time to look inward to understand the condition of our hearts, sometimes what we find there can produce feelings of guilt, shame, and disappointment. Although this is completely understandable, this is not God’s intention for your life. We may even begin to feel a bit overwhelmed because the number of areas we’ve identified as needing rest and healing seems insurmountable. The beautiful good news is that rest will not come from our work but from God’s finished work. We know that a vacation, sleep, or other restful postures will not be enough to restore us fully. When unrest is at the soul level, it’s untouchable by traditional means. We need an “other than” kind of power to remedy it. God is the true source of rest.
Today, focus on the truth that God is the ultimate source of the rest we long for. When was the last time you allowed yourself to just drink in the reality of who God really is? Most of our lives are lived in light of the reality of knowing the importance of God but not truly remembering and focusing on His story. In your time of stillness, meditate on God as our source of rest. Read some Scripture to support this idea. Look at the verses that point to the attributes of God. Take note of the things that come to mind as you do.
Caution: We may be tempted to believe that there are multiple ways that we can attain soul rest. Although there are many ways for us to assume a restful posture and experience temporary rest, the true source of the rest we long for comes from God, alone.
Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Thee.
In reading this and the verses that go along with this, I started thinking how man said we need to change how we treat each other. How change teach change of attitudes and behavior when we must first start from within.
You know looking back since the WWII days wars were every 20 years. Filled with hate, brutality, killing without end for what? We as a people from every walk of life have not learn not one damn thing.
We teach this next generation how to hate, because of the color of the skin, language, religion, country and so on. I know I’ve walked this earth with my eyes half open, seeing only what I desire to see. For me people are people. No better or worse than the next. However, what has change is how I feel about people. Ashamed is a good of a word as any.
- WWII let’s kill all the Jews, gays, any thing that is not pure.
- Korea wanting to rule as a communist country, to have to people to do one bidding after being ruled by Japan from 1910-45. Power over a weaker neighbor.
- Vietnam again divided land be French Indochina although now one country but the resources this country had.
- Gulf war 1 Iraq decided to invade Kuwait, attacked Saudi Arabia, and Israel. None of these countries did anything to the government of Iraq. Oil.
- Macedonia, Bosnia Herzegovina war of independence, and more.
- 9-11 UBL against U.S.A. hate, religion, mostly hate.
- Gulf war 2 WMD real reason not sure.
At the end of the day more innocents were killed than those who started the wars in the first place.
All of the wars since the time of man have been over land, power, religion, resources. Not one war has ever been justified. Those who are stronger prey on the weak. I don’t want them as neighbors because they do not believe as we believe “religion “. They are not pure “race”. Who is pure of anything? I want their land, greed. Because we can “power”. They have what we need “resources “.
Is there problem with asking can share your resources with us? Help me(us) understand your religion. Why are you ruling over those in that way? There is but one ruler. We need more space our population has grown so great may we share your land.
Yes all that I’ve just said sounds crazy and will never happen. The sharing that is.
The place we call home or earth is not ours to begin with. We are only the care taker of this place, or at least that is what is suppose to happen. However, we can not do that right. Instead we’ve allow satan to rule over our action not as God has instructed us.
It’s time for a change.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that he may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of the world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take into you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord : let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Exodus 20:1-17 KJV
Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:35-40 KJV
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
Romans 12:3-8 KJV
And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Luke 14:7-11 KJV
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Hebrews 11:1-10 KJV
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
Matthew 4:23-24 KJV
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Matthew 10:1, 5-5, 8 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 14:12-14 KJV
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:14-16 KJV
