Planting and Tending Your Garden
SEED OF TRUTH
Read Ephesians 6:1-4.
God is a God of order, and the concepts of honor and submission are throughout the Bible. Read these verses and take note of the verse the Lord is speaking to you most specifically. Don’t brush it aside, but take it to heart. Ask the Lord to help you meditate upon this today. Think about it. Ask the Lord to bring anything to the surface that you need to bring to Him.
PLANT THE SEED
Quietly recite today’s focus verse to yourself. Hide it in your heart and meditate on it throughout the day.
“Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
WATER THE SEED
Are you honoring your parents? Are you training up your children in the way they should go so that they aren’t frustrated? Do you need to confess past sins? Perhaps you were wounded by a parent. Allow the Lord to tenderly care for you. Permit Him into that private place. Believe that He is able to heal anything and everything. Do you need to ask Him to help you forgive?
Regardless of what parents you have or had, consider what it would look like to honor your parents this week. If your parents aren’t still living, consider how you can honor them with your words and deeds.
Think about the legacy they have left to you and ask the Lord if you are to carry on any of the honorable and excellent things they taught you. Thank Him for being your heavenly Father and thank Him for the circumstances of your childhood trusting that He does work all things together for good for those who love Him. Read Romans 8:18-30.
BEAR THE FRUIT
Honor your parents.
Honor your heavenly Father.
CLOSE IN PRAYER
Ask the Lord to bring to life all that has been planted in your heart today.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:1-4 KJV
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
Romans 8:18-30 KJV
